Gudauri Lodge
There's a particular kind of quiet at Gudauri Lodge: the one that settles in once...
Monte Hotel sits in Upper Gudauri, close enough to the Shino ski lift that the free winter shuttle covers the distance in a few minutes each way, morning and afternoon. Every one of its rooms carries a private balcony facing the Caucasus, which is the detail most guests mention first, whether they arrive for a ski week or a summer stay in the mountains. The hotel reads as a proper mid-size mountain property rather than a boutique inn or a sprawling resort, and that middle scale is precisely what makes it easy to recommend.
We chose Monte Hotel because it gets the ski-hotel basics right without inflating the price for them: mountain-view balconies as standard rather than an upgrade, a wellness floor with sauna and pool included rather than billed separately, and a location close enough to the lift that a shuttle genuinely saves time rather than just existing on paper. Georgian and European dishes on the restaurant menu and a terrace bar built for watching the peaks round it out, and the twelve hundred-plus reviews behind its rating suggest the formula holds up across a full season, not just a good week.
Gudauri is Georgia's main ski resort, strung along the Georgian Military Highway roughly two hours from Tbilisi, and Upper Gudauri sits closest to the lift network. Monte Hotel's position puts the Shino lift within a short shuttle ride, with the wider slope system reachable from there, and the same road continues north toward Kazbegi and the Gergeti Trinity Church for guests extending the trip. Out of season, the same balconies and the same road make it a base for hiking and simply sitting with the view, which is why the hotel markets itself as a four-season address rather than a winter-only one.

The sauna and pool are included rather than sold as a spa package, which matters after a full day on Gudauri's slopes: a Finnish sauna and a Turkish steam sauna sit alongside an indoor pool, all open to guests without an extra charge. A game room covers the evenings when the weather turns, and the same floor tends to be where a ski week's aches actually get addressed, rather than left for a masseuse booked three days in advance.
Room categories run from a standard Double or Twin up through Superior, Deluxe, Family and a Suite with a separate living room, but the constant across almost all of them is the balcony facing the Caucasus. Deluxe and Superior rooms add a tea and coffee maker and a walk-in shower; the Suite adds a bathrobe and a proper sitting area. Only the base Double or Twin comes without a balcony, so it is worth specifying a mountain view when booking any other category.
Monte Hotel runs a genuinely four-season calendar, so winter rates and demand climb well above the summer baseline; booking ahead for peak ski weeks matters more here than at a year-round city hotel. The free shuttle to the Shino lift only operates within set morning and afternoon windows during the season, so guests planning an early or late run should check the timetable rather than assume it. Breakfast is continental and included; lunch and dinner run through the on-site restaurant.
